Jewson, JPS and MBS “host largest Big Brew mental health event yet”

Mental health in the construction industry was top of the agenda for Jewson, JPS and MBS recently, as 70 branches collaborated to host The Big Brew in recognition of World Mental Health Day (10th October).

Designed to raise awareness of the stigma surrounding mental health challenges in the construction industry, The Big Brew is an annual campaign(scroll down) which encourages builders and tradespeople to come together over a hot drink and engage in conversations that put the topic into the spotlight.

Although Big Brew events can be held at any time of year, Jewson hosts its own on World Mental Health Day. It is the fifth year Jewson has championed the initiative, organised by Band of Builders, the national merchant group’s official charity partner. With 70 branches taking part, it was the company’s largest Big Brew event yet.

Kris Winters, Regional Director for Jewson, said: “We’re proud to partner the trades, so it’s essential that we do all we can to understand the mental health crisis in our industry, and work together to direct those in need towards the best possible resources. Our partnership with Band of Builders continues to go from strength to strength, as we share their passion for ensuring the industry feels supported during the hardest of times.

“With 70 Jewson, JPS and MBS branches taking part in this year’s Big Brew event, we’re confident we will have created a lasting and meaningful legacy for customers who may previously have been struggling in silence. We hope we’ve shown the people that work with us that they can always rely on us when they need it most.”

Gavin Crane, CEO for Band of Builders (pictured, top), said: “Each and every year, Jewson’s Big Brew event reaches another level in its impact on builders and tradespeople.

“Poor mental health can affect anyone, at any time, but with so many branches taking part in this initiative, it can be in no doubt that Jewson, JPS and MBS will have positively influenced lots of construction workers to see past the stigma associated with wellbeing, and instead reach out to get the help they need.”

Anyone working in the construction industry who’s struggling with their mental health can text BOB to 85258 24-hours a day, to connect with a Band of Builders representative and receive free support.
