Marley celebrates landmark 100-year anniversary

Marley, the leading roof system manufacturer, is celebrating its centenary in 2024.

Founded in 1924 by Owen Aisher, the company’s inception can be seen as marking a crucial milestone in the evolution of the UK roofing industry, with the production of Marley’s very first concrete roof tiles beginning in a humble cowshed on Marley Farm in Kent. However, it was the determination and entrepreneurial spirit of the founder’s son, Sir Owen Aisher that led Marley to national and international growth in the decades following the Second World War.

A century later, 2024 sees Marley proudly celebrate 100 years of continuous development, market-leading product innovation, and technical expertise.

The intervening decades have seen the company’s manufacturing facilities expand and product ranges extended from concrete to clay, together with a range of accessories, roofing batten and high performance underlay to deliver the most comprehensive pitched roof system on the market.

Marley says now is the time for builders’ merchants to seriously consider their solar offering to make the most of a growing opportunity.

And that commitment to innovation has not stood still. In recent years, the business introduced what is billed as the UK’s first fully roof integrated solar PV panel, Marley SolarTile. Today, its solar roof system package is now complemented with a package of additional inverters, battery storage solutions, and an EV charging point to provide a complete renewable energy system from a single trusted source.

Daniel Redfern for Marley says: “We are delighted to celebrate Marley’s 100th anniversary this year. The milestone is testimony to the hard work, diligence, and innovating spirit of colleagues across the decades who have contributed to our collective and ongoing success.

“For any business to be successful for a century is a real achievement and we have managed this because we have continued to react to the market, understand what customers want, and create the system and product solutions that deliver high performing and beautiful roofscapes.

Daniel adds: “As we move into our next century of operation, Marley remains focussed on strategic progression, especially as sustainable solutions become more of a priority for everyone. A growing renewable technology package now complements our traditional clay and concrete tile ranges and fully integrated roofing system offer, underpinned by our industry-leading package of technical support, developed to assist the roofing industry for years to come.”
