Taking effect from 1 April 2023, Mike Tattam has been appointed as Commercial Director of the Builders Merchants Federation.
Mike is a familiar face in the building materials industry, with a career spanning over 35 years working with leading manufacturer brands in senior commercial roles. He brings a wealth of experience across heavyside and lightside sectors, and with national and independent merchants, specialist stockists and buying groups.
In August 2022, Mike joined the BMF in an interim capacity to recruit and develop a new Regional team and introduce initiatives to grow membership and enhance value to existing members.
Commenting on his appointment, BMF CEO, John Newcomb said: “I am extremely pleased that Mike is joining the team on a permanent basis. He has integrated well into the BMF family since joining us in an interim role last summer and now becomes a valuable member of the Senior Management Team.”
In other personnel news from the Federation, it has been announced that after nearly seven years in the role, Key Account Manager Alex Clifford is taking retirement and will be leaving the BMF on Friday 30th March 2023.
Alex has been in the industry all his adult life and has held senior positions in Travis Perkins, John Guest and Polypipe. Since becoming the BMF’s Key Account Manager, his knowledge and enthusiasm is said to have encouraged more Merchants to become members of the organisation whilst he has supported merchants by advising on training courses, organising Regional Meetings and Forums or advising on the advantages of the Plus Services.
BMF CEO John Newcomb said: “Alex has done a tremendous job for us in his seven years with the BMF, winning the Regional Manager of the Year award for two consecutive years which reflects the impact he has had on our membership and his commitment to delivering training excellence. Alex will be missed by me personally along with the rest of the BMF team and our Members, and we wish him a very long and happy retirement.”
Alex commented: “I have really enjoyed my time with the BMF, working with our CEO, John Newcomb, all the Board Members and the hard-working staff in our Head Office in Coventry. It has been a wonderful opportunity, and I have taken great pleasure in supporting and advising our members on the many advantages of being in the BMF. I shall without doubt miss many old friends and acquaintances in this unique industry.
“I thank both Merchant and Supplier Members for all for the support and commitment they have given me, and not forgetting the BMF staff who continue to work tirelessly in representing this fantastic industry.”
Whilst continuing as Regional Manager for Anglia and the South East, Neil Osborne will now be managing a number of Alex’s Key Account Members.
