London based building and plumbing merchants, MP Moran and Sons, is pledging its support for the next generation of professionals within the building materials industry to bridge the ever-widening skills gap.
As part of a national campaign to raise awareness of career opportunities, Bart Murphy, Operations Director for MP Moran and Sons Builders and Plumbers Merchants, has been appointed an Industry Ambassador by trade body, the Builders Merchant Federation (BMF), to guide young professionals looking to begin a career in the sector.
Having already been named the BMF’s Young Merchant of the Year in 2016, Bart is using his 19 years of experience within the industry and at MP Moran and Sons to highlight the rewarding employment opportunities available throughout the sector.
Bart began his career at MP Moran and Sons in 2000 with a part time role, whilst completing his studies. Bart said: “I’m extremely proud to have been appointed an ambassador for the BMF, supporting its latest campaign to attract new talent into the industry. We are seeing an increasing need to attract younger talent into the industry and projects such as these are vital to reduce the skills gap the building and construction industry is currently facing.
“Here at MP Moran and Sons, we have over 300 employees, with 35% of individuals staying with the company for five years or more. This is a testament to the dedication and support we provide each colleague, enabling them to progress their career at a pace that suits them.”
As part of the latest initiative, Bart features on the new BMF careers website, Building Materials Careers, which has been developed to showcase the wide range of professional and trade-based opportunities available.
“Throughout my role as Operations Director I oversee many different disciplines, from transport and logistics to marketing and finance. It’s this diverse exposure that I want to create awareness of with young people, educating them on the various opportunities available throughout the merchant industry.”
