Talasey celebrates 20th anniversary

Talasey’s owner Mark Wall reflects on the landscaping supplier’s growth over two decades and outlines his excitement for the future.

Praising the “hard work, dedication and innovative spirit of [the] entire team” as it marks its 20th anniversary, Talasey founder and CEO Mark Wall issued a glowing thank you to staff and partners in both the merchant and landscaping industries on the exact date that the company celebrated its first two decades – and said he was “excited about the future”.

At a special staff birthday party, Mark reflected on the journey the company – which started life as Natural Paving Products and now has a team of nearly 100 employees – has been on. He said: “Over the past two decades, Talasey has grown from a small start-up into a leading name in our industry. Our journey has been marked by numerous achievements, awards and innovative projects, as well as the establishment of strong relationships within the industry.

“From our humble beginnings as Natural Paving Products to becoming a trusted provider of high-quality landscaping solutions, we have navigated through tough external factors and industry challenges. Disruption has become the new normal, and our ability to adapt and thrive amidst these changes has been a key driver of our success.”

Looking to the future, Mark commented: “While we are proud of our past, we are equally excited about the future. The landscaping industry is evolving, and we are committed to staying at the forefront of innovation and sustainability. Our focus will be on reinvesting profits to support the development of new products, embracing cutting-edge technologies and continuing to provide exceptional service to our customers, through an ever-expanding and effective team.”

He rounded off the message with a thank you and said: “This milestone would not have been possible without the trust and support of our clients and partners and the hard work of our talented Team Talasey – your support has been invaluable, and I extend my deepest gratitude to each of you. Together, we have built something truly remarkable, and together, we can look forward to many more years of success and collaboration as we continue to achieve great things.”

The company was founded after Mark spotted a gap in the UK domestic market for high-quality, ethically sourced natural stone landscaping products – including block paving, walling, copings, cobbles, kerbs and edgings, and stepping stones.

As the business grew, it began introducing other complementary products and ranges, such as Pavetuf (to aid the installation, maintenance and protection of hard landscaping) and the Vitripiazza collection of high-quality, vitrified porcelain paving and porcelain wall cladding.

By the time the Luxigraze range of high-quality artificial grass products was launched in 2017, the company had recognised the need for the business to evolve to reflect its position as one of the UK’s leading independent suppliers of landscaping solutions. It rebranded to Talasey and later added a collection of composite decking, fencing and cladding solutions, called Piranha.

In 2021, it acquired St. Vincent House (SVH) in Scunthorpe and spent six months renovating the four-acre site ahead of its staff moving into the new head office. It’s already become a centre of excellence for the UK landscaping industry and is a Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) Centre of Excellence. The site also houses the Talasey Training Academy (TTA) – a training centre used by the UK landscaping industry to increase skills and raise standards.

In addition to the staff party, the company is also hosting 20th anniversary events for partners and key figures from the landscaping and merchant industries – as well as the local business community. The supplier has also set itself a target to complete 20 charitable activities during 2024 to raise money for a number of charities, including Band of Builders and Children In Need. This has ranged from entering tough mudders, to hosting bake offs, to taking part in a dragon boat race – as well as getting involved in hikes and bike rides.

Talasey has a merchant-only supply policy and, as the business has grown, it has been able to build relationships with merchants across the UK, from independents through to nationals. The business supports merchants and their customers through a range of marketing materials, various PR activity and support from the Customer Engagement Team.

In addition, the Talasey Training Academy (TTA) is part of its ongoing commitment to supporting and raising standards within the industry whilst the company also delivers product awareness training and has launched its Talasey on Tour mobile showrooms for onsite merchant/landscaper training. Last year, it introduced a new team of Merchant Support Managers to further improve its service offering to the merchant sector.
