Travis Perkins launches new charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society

Travis Perkins has announced a new three-year partnership with Alzheimer’s Society, a charity that works with people affected by dementia.

The partnership will raise vital funds and awareness for the support, care and research that Alzheimer’s Society carries out. Together, Travis Perkins and Alzheimer’s Society will also raise awareness and understanding of dementia and will help tackle stigma, increase diagnosis rates and raise awareness of the charity’s large network of local support services for people with dementia and their carers.

Colleagues will take part in a variety of fundraising initiatives including Alzheimer’s Society’s ‘Memory Walk’ and the ‘Forget Me Not Appeal.’

Travis Perkins MD James Mackenzie said: “We’re delighted to announce this partnership and we’re really excited about how we can work together over the next three years to not only fundraise for this amazing charity, but also raise awareness of the outstanding work they do for those living with dementia. Community and charity sits at the heart of Travis Perkins, so to be able to support those impacted by this devastating disease that affects so many in our communities is fantastic.

“We have a long-standing history of fundraising and partnering with amazing causes to be a force for good. Our colleagues and customers will be able to help fund support for the 900,000 living with dementia and help fund ground-breaking research to make it the priority it should be.”

Kate Lee, CEO for Alzheimer’s Society, added: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Travis Perkins over the next three years. This partnership will help us raise vital funds to provide support to those living with dementia and also continue our life changing research.

“This is an incredibly exciting time to be joining us and a turning point in dementia research. Studies funded by Alzheimer’s Society have seen the development of two new disease modifying drugs that in trials have been shown to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s.”

Kate continued: “One in three born in the UK today will develop dementia and it’s currently the UK’s biggest killer.  With your support we can change this. We truly believe this partnership has the power to change the story of dementia forever.”

The new partnership was the result of a vote that was opened up to Travis Perkins, Benchmarx, Hire and Managed Service colleagues who work in its 500+ branches across the UK. It follows a successful seven year partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, where Travis Perkins raised £4.5 million for the cancer care charity.

Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity that campaigns for change, funds research, improves care and supports people living with dementia today.
