Taken from the regular column in PBM’s January edition, and with more and more homeowners looking at expanding their properties, low pitch roofs are becoming a common feature on single storey extension projects.
Merchants stocking Marley’s Mendip 12.5° concrete interlocking tile have the opportunity to further support their roofing clients thanks to its pitch flexibility, outstanding water management properties, and attractive aesthetics. By promoting its many benefits, merchants can ensure customers have an appropriate low roof pitch product solution when they need it — and enjoy a market opportunity to build further business.
Four reasons to recommend the Mendip 12.5° concrete interlocking tile:
Overcome low pitch demands: The Mendip 12.5° is suitable for installation at pitches of 12.5-44° with a rafter length up to 6m and requires a 100mm minimum headlap. It can be especially effective when planning for a single-story lean-to extension where the roof must fit under a first-floor window.
Keep water out: The design of the Mendip 12.5° has removed the requirement to use nail holes, mitigating against water ingress especially during times of heavy, wind-driven rain. In addition, the tile offers four anti-capillary grooves to reduce the chance of rainwater creeping up between overlapping tiles through capillary action. This is key for low pitch roofs where water remains on the roof for longer timescales.
Increase basket value: Compatible with Marley’s full roof system, Mendip also offers a valuable way for merchants to increase basket value. All products are designed and tested to work together seamlessly including batten, underlay, dry verge systems, top edge ventilated abutment systems and, as the tile needs to be fixed twice, Mendip head clips and SoloFix clips.
Three colour options: The Mendip 12.5° — adapted from Marley’s Mendip range — offers an attractive aesthetic appeal with the availability of three popular colourway options designed to suit a variety of roofing projects in differing locations. With Old English Dark Red, Smooth Grey or Smooth Brown options, the colour range enables low pitch projects to match the local roofscape style.
