Builders and merchants give OSB the thumbs-up

Oriented Strand Board (OSB) is a firm favourite with the building trade, where it is used in a variety of everyday applications.

From wall sheathing to site hoarding, OSB offers a strong, durable and cost-effective alternative to more expensive and less sustainable imported plywood products.

Made in Scotland from home-grown forest ‘thinnings’ (a by-product of sustainable forest management), Norbord’s SterlingOSB is one of the most environmentally-friendly building products available.

Being homegrown, it is also readily available — unlike the UK supply of softwood and hardwood ply, all of which is imported.

A recent study carried out for Norbord by Circle Research found that 53% of builders had a positive view of OSB in their trade. Amongst builders’ merchants, 68% view OSB positively.

Strong and easy to work with, OSB is also up to 45.2% cheaper than softwood ply. No wonder it’s gaining in popularity.
