Cowal Building and Plumbing Supplies acquires JKM Timber

Cowal Building and Plumbing Supplies has once again hit the acquisition trail, taking on the business of Paisley-based JKM Industrial Supplies Ltd.

Tracing its origins back to 1979 as Modern Building Supplies Ltd, JKM has been supplying the timber trade in the West of Scotland under its current name since 1989. The company’s website further notes that “JKM was established with our business focus being on the customer” whilst “forging close relationships with quality suppliers would prove to be our passage to success” and the firm adds that “it is our service and reputation that has allowed us to stand the test of time.”

Cowal’s Stewart G. Shaw (Jnr) reports that JKM’s founding family of Morag, John & Lorna McGugan will be staying with the company to assist in its integration into the Cowal Group of businesses, whilst the full JKM team are all being retained alongside “the extremely strong trading name of JKM Industrial Supplies in the Paisley & Renfrewshire area, so successfully built up by Morag, John, Lorna and their mum & dad before them over the past 40+ years of trading.”

Stewart added: “We are extremely pleased to bring such a respected brand into our business along with the Cowal, Reddance, Catherwood & John Cameron’s Trading Brands , hopefully you’ll all join us in welcoming the team at JKM into our wee family team.”

The family-run Cowal merchant group acquired Reddance Building Supplies in 2017, with Catherwood Construction Materials coming into the fold in 2021. Most recently, Cowal purchased Camerons – Roofing, Plumbing & Building Supplies in 2022.
