Filplastic doubles Lochaber BS storage space

Filplastic has doubled the storage capacity at a busy builders’ merchant in less than two days.

The company, based near Howden in East Yorkshire, installed a mezzanine floor in super-quick time at Lochaber Building Supplies, to accommodate an upturn in trade at the Fort William builders’ merchant.

Filplastic was appointed to survey the warehouse and design a solution which made the best possible use of the space Lochaber BS had available.

After extensive design work, the company decided to fit a mezzanine floor to cover as much of the building as the eaves would allow, doubling the amount of storage space available. The work also removed the need for high-rise stock shelves.

Lochaber BS Director, Gerry Halas, said he was extremely pleased with the result, adding that Filplastic had provided the perfect solution. “It’s so much easier for the customers to get around now. The company really did a good job, the plans were clear, the employees were professional and the price was reasonable.”

He also exhibited his delight with the time it took for the floor to be installed. “We were only shut for one day on the Saturday and by Monday we were open again. It was done in no time at all and that was really important to us.”

John Crawley, Filplastic’s Business Development Manager in Scotland, said the job had gone extremely smoothly and created a practical and cost-effective solution to the space issues.

He said: “Lochaber BS is trading very well and has seen a significant upturn in customers, which is excellent news. But of course, this has been accompanied by a need to accommodate those extra customers, putting space at a premium.

“Our designers and warehouse experts looked at the solution and came up with what they considered would be most effective. We managed to double the space over the course of a weekend – an incredible achievement – so the job has worked out really well.”
