The charity ‘Monster Walk’ will start on 28 June at the Widnes branch of Jewson, where members of the group will walk various legs of the journey to Hull, passing 13 branches in total. The money raised from the walk will be split equally between Jewson’s charity partners, Barnardo’s and Band of Builders.
On top of the charity walk, members of the Jewson Executive Team have set themselves an additional challenge of running, cycling, walking, swimming and rowing the distance between all 483 Jewson branches across the UK – which equates to 7,388 miles on land and 247 miles on water. Executive Team members will also be taking part in the Monster Walk, which will help contribute to this enormous challenge.
Mike Newnham, Managing Director at Jewson, said: “The founding principle of our charity partner, Band of Builders, is that ‘good things happen when people band together’, and this is also a core belief for the team at Jewson. This outlook underpins our plans to help make the world a better home, which includes helping improve the wellbeing of our colleagues and the industry as a whole.
“This is why we extended our support for Barnardo’s and Band of Builders, both of whom are hugely important to us, with the upcoming Monster Walk and Executive Team challenge. We’re always looking for ways to make a positive contribution to the construction industry, and what better way than by raising funds for these two fantastic charities. We wish the team the best of luck on the Monster Walk and hope that the public get behind them by donating!”
This activity follows the recent announcement of Band of Builders as Jewson’s official charity partner. The partnership aims to help the charity reach even more members of the construction community in their hour of need, with Jewson providing volunteers for projects. The four-year long partnership with Barnardo’s, which has won two Business Charity Awards, helps young care leavers gain valuable construction and life skills and connects them with Saint-Gobain customers for potential employment opportunities. Jewson will also be helping develop high-quality ‘Gap Homes’ to help young care leavers transition to independent living.
