MPH Merchant aims for “enhanced buying power” by joining NBG

Specialist plumbing, heating and bathrooms merchant, MPH, has joined National Buying Group (NBG), crediting improved buying power as one of the main reasons for the move.

With its headquarters in Bristol, the merchant has been in business for 15 years and has nine branches including outlets in Dorset, the West Midlands, Swansea and Torquay. Having not been part of a buying group previously, the leadership team at MPH wanted to make a change to be part of a community that supports business growth and increases their ability to secure better deals with Suppliers.

MPH Operations Director Chris Edwards said: “Becoming an NBG merchant already feels like a great decision. Suppliers like Worcester Bosch are proactively coming to our office and having teams visit the branches. They’ve arranged training for us on renewables as well. It’s really clear that Suppliers have a lot of respect for NBG, and we’re already seeing the positive impact that being an NBG Partner has on our Supplier relationships.”

MPH officially joined NBG on March 1st this year and adds that it has already benefited from not only the improvement to Supplier relations, but also “the industry-leading way NBG uses data.”

Chris explained: “The quality of the data NBG makes available has made a lot of the admin of this transition really smooth. And on a day-to-day level, managing data is a big task for any business, which is why we’re so grateful for NBG’s support with data creation and data analysis. It really helps take a lot off our hands so we can focus on serving our customers and growing the business.”

Phil Bonar, New Partner Development and Recruitment Manager at NBG, added: “MPH has certainly hit the ground running with NBG. Their appreciation of the business growth we make possible and their motivation to contribute their expertise to the group is really exciting to see.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the team at MPH use the Partnership to accelerate themselves to further success as plumbing merchants.”
