New packaging boosts Superglass sustainability aims

Superglass has launched new packaging across its full insulation product range said to cut ink usage by up to 93%.

This initiative supports its sustainability commitments under parent group Etex’s Road to Sustainability 2030 framework, building on a 7.75% reduction in carbon intensity achieved in 2025.

The full Superglass insulation range – including rolls, batts and blown wool products – will be provided in the new packaging, reducing ink usage from 98% to as low as 6%. The updated design retains the familiar colour coding and graphic icons that help merchants, installers and housebuilders identify the right insulation product for each job.

And in addition to the significant reduction in ink, the redesigned packaging is made from durable, weatherproof plastic that contains 30% post-industrial recycled content.

Kevin Tolson, General Manager of Superglass, part of Etex UK Insulation, said: “Our focus with this redesign was simple. We wanted to reduce the environmental impact of our packaging without compromising what customers rely on day to day. By cutting ink use by over 90%, we’ve made a meaningful change, but just as importantly, we’ve kept the packs easy to recognise and handle on site and in merchant branches.

“It’s a practical step forward that reflects how we’re approaching sustainability across the business, making improvements that work in the real world for our customers as well as reducing our impact.”

The firm says that its new packaging further builds on its long-standing commitment to sustainability, both in its manufacturing processes and product performance. Superglass insulation is manufactured using glass mineral wool made from up to 84% recycled glass while its advanced production process is designed to minimise energy consumption and recycle waste wherever possible.

Products are also compression-packed to reduce packaging and transport emissions, and over their lifetime, the company states its insulation can save more than 200 times the energy used to produce it.

The new-look packaging is now available for builders’ merchants nationwide.
