OneBond, Saint-Gobain’s latest venture into adhesives and sealants, is said to offer a full range of toolbox essentials for contractors – enabling them to take on the challenge of winter repairs.
As winter approaches, it is estimated that homeowners in the UK collectively spend approximately £25,000 on fixing damage caused by freezing conditions, according to professional traders platform Checkatrade.
Cracked pipes and gutters, peeling exterior seals and leaking roofs are among the most common repairs carried out during the winter, and with an influx of cold weather repairs on the horizon for builders and contractors across the UK, Saint-Gobain is advising merchants to plan ahead and stock up on adhesives and sealants ready for the return of colder temperatures.
Its new OneBond range is said to offer a “concise yet complete range” of adhesives and sealants for works around the home:
Acrylic universal – a one-component sealant for assembling light building materials and sealing cracks and joints in interior applications.
PU 40 – suitable when dealing with expansion and contraction, and can even be painted when cured. Used to fill joints, lay roof tiles, assemble framing components, etc. Best for maintaining elasticity and withstanding weathering and ageing.
Ms Hybrid – bonds well to a range of materials and can be used to fill and seal. Once cured, it can be painted and provides robust bonding capabilities – said to be great for jobs where water is present.
Silicones – claimed to offer excellent UV, temperature and humidity resistance and can be used for sealing window and door frames.
Fast Putty Resin – OneBond says this “is a great solution to keep in the toolbox for emergency repairs.” These two-part putties are moulded by hand and can be applied underwater and used to fill oversized bolt holes. Fast Putty Resin was also created to offer excellent resistance to weathering and cold temperatures.
Construction sealants are often designed for use between 20ºC and 25ºC for optimum application. Each of the OneBond products mentioned above can be applied within temperatures between at least 5ºC and 35ºC – making them well-suited for application in winter months. The manufacturer states that some products can even withstand temperatures as low as -30ºC once cured, making them a particular “toolbox favourite” at this time of year.
Nick Bratt, National Sales Manager, BM and DIY, at Saint-Gobain Abrasives, said: “It’s important for merchants to carry the right winter-ready adhesives and sealants as we head into cooler temperatures, as builders and contractors will be seeking the highest performing products for their winter toolkits.
“Stocking OneBond ensures merchants are offering products with superior performance, even in adverse weather conditions. Contractors can achieve exceptional results with our range of winter-ready adhesives and sealants, designed specifically for the UK construction market.”
