As many merchants are faced with difficult decisions in light of the developing coronavirus crisis, Selco Builders Warehouse has announced its branch network will close for the next three weeks.
Chief executive Howard Luft cited the welfare of customers, colleagues and suppliers as paramount after reaching the decision to suspend trading at the company’s 68 branches until mid-April.
In the wake of the Prime Minister’s address to the nation on Monday, Selco announced plans to close its branches the following day and has now extended the period in which the doors to its stores will remain shut.
Howard said: “We are living in unprecedented times and I’m certain this is the right and responsible decision for everyone connected with Selco. The main concern was around the social distancing within our branches and the health, safety and welfare of our customers, colleagues and suppliers was the clear top priority in our decision making.
“While we look forward to opening the doors to our branches once again, everyone’s sole focus now has to be to remain safe and play their part in what is a huge global effort.
“We will provide updates over the coming days and weeks but, in the meantime, I’d like to thank customers and colleagues for their understanding and pass on my very best wishes to everyone at this difficult time.”
Any customers with outstanding delivery or Click & Collect orders will be contacted by their local branch.
