Mates in Mind is launching a fundraising challenge ‘Every Step Counts’ to both encourage individuals to get moving in a way which works for them, while also raising vital funds which will help the charity to continue to support workplaces across the UK.
The link between exercise and the benefits to mental health is firmly established, from elevating stress and anxiety, to improved sleep, being physically active can assist individual’s mental health management during difficult times. This is now especially important as the world continues to navigate the challenges posed by COVID-19 and the changes it has brought, and continues to bring, to each of our lives.
Together in virtual teams or as an individual, the challenge will be to achieve a sponsored 100 miles in steps, within two weeks. Be this around the flat or as part of a daily exercise routine, every step will count.
James Rudoni, Managing Director of Mates in Mind says: “This challenge is coming at a time when most of the UK is facing an unprecedented situation, in which there has been a huge change to our daily lives and routines. We hope this challenge will encourage businesses to come together and build relationships in their teams, while also getting moving to support the management of their mental health.”
VINCI Construction UK have demonstrated their commitment to the challenge, leading the way by being the first to pledge their commitment to the fundraising initiative.
Gary Carvell, Director of HSEQ says: “VINCI Construction UK are working hard to create an environment where we are as comfortable talking about our Mental Health as we are our Physical Health.”
Helen Knight, Group Health and Wellbeing Manager says: “We are delighted to be able to partner with Mates in Mind for their ‘Every step counts’ 100 mile challenge, as part of our spotlight on Mental Health for Mental Health Awareness Week. This is a great opportunity to bring teams together, from across the organisation (be it virtually), and encourage everyone to get moving, giving our Mental Health a well needed boost, whilst fundraising for a great cause”
Fundraising from this event will go towards allowing the charity to continue to support workplaces across the UK with vital support programmes, including; the delivery of mental health advice, guidance, training and enhanced live on-line support. By taking proactive steps to develop their approach, Mates in Mind have produced new resources and tools, an evolved training programme and are developing new, innovative ways to reach those who are most at risk, helping us all to work better together and remain mentally healthy in this time.
